How to Achieve a Roof Vent Installation in Edmonton With No Leaks | Gooseneck Vent Installation by Browns Roofing
Hey everyone, it’s Lyle with Brown’s Roofing. Today we’re going to be installing a gooseneck right here. Bathroom vent.
So, as you can see, they poked a little hole for me. So, this is exactly where they want it.
Clearing the Path for the Bathroom Vent
So, I had to clear a path and shovel the snow. I mean, it’s coming up in the back there. Cleared a little path and now we’re here.
So, I’m going to cut out this shingle. Cut out the sheathing. And then install the gooseneck.
Installing the Gooseneck Roof Vent
And there you have it, guys. So, the gooseneck is installed.
So, now they just have to run the flex pipe into the bathroom, connect it to the fan, and then yeah.
So, how these work is you just flick your switch on in the bathroom. The vent turns on and then it exhausts all the air out through these vents right here.
Where to Place Nails to Prevent Leaks
So, another thing I wanted to share was when you’re installing these goosenecks, it’s important that you don’t nail too close to the wall of the gooseneck.
So, I see a lot of times guys will nail even right here is not good. You want a nail on this outside perimeter. See where that nail is? That’s exactly where you want your nails to be.
And even to go above that, you should always put caulking. I’m going to put a bead of caulking right here on each side afterwards. But I just wanted to show this is where you need to put your nails. This is where you need to install your nails, I should say.
And that way you won’t have a leak because if you install, I see it all the time, guys put the nails even right here, right? Right here, I should say. And then eventually the snow melts and then it’ll start trickling in.
Yeah, it’s important that you nail as far away as possible from this wall. Yeah, and then, as I said, just add some caulking to these shingles. And then yeah, you should be fine. You should never get a leak here.
Sealing the Shingles After the Repair
Also, when you’re doing repairs because you have to break this tarbond to do this actual install, it’s important that you go back and then you break all the tarbonds that you broke to do the repair.
So I renailed it and then also I’m going to add a bit of caulking. And it’s good to go with a good caulking. I prefer Solar Seal. It’s one of the better ones. It’s more of a rubberized caulking.
Yeah. So, it’s not that cheap stuff. I can’t remember the name of it, but it’s not that cheap.
But yeah, so we’re going to go ahead and all these shingles under here, under here, under here, and then we’ll be out of here.
